If you’ve seen the 1978 film The Wiz, you’re familiar with the scene after Evillene is defeated, the people in the sweatshop begin to shed their old skin and celebrate a new era. The sun shines into the factory and the main cast—Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross—join the ensemble to welcome a “Brand New Day.” Well, that’s how Spring feels to me; when the sun decides to stop setting at 4:07 pm and stay out until almost 8 pm, it truly feels like a brand new day.
With a brand new day is also a brand new month, which means new music recommendations. May is Mental Health Month and this month’s playlist includes new singles from Durand Bernarr and Susan Carol, a few wishes from Tiny Habits, and sprinkles of joy from Moorea Masa & the Mood and Aaron Taylor.
