It’s February and that means a new month for new music recommendations. It’s also Black History Month and Valentine’s season, and while neither Black history nor love can be confined to one month, I’ll relish in the moment to highlight both with this month’s music recommendations.
Every day is a good day for Black history with Black 365 curated for the National Women’s Law Center. Or dance with everyone from Somi to Tems with Sweet Diaspora, celebrating and connecting African descendants across continents.
This Black Love playlist celebrates self love, community love, and romantic love. Speaking of love, there’s something about Black Men in Love and the melodies that follow. Inspired by Jonathan Singletary’s “I Already Love You,” this one is full of songs by Black men who aren’t afraid to be sentimental in a world that would prefer that they detach from their feelings.
And for solidarity, justice, and healing, listen to Freedom Songs. Connect with the songs that connect all of us like “Optimistic” by Sounds of Blackness, “When the Revolution Comes” by The Last Poets, and “Earth is Ghetto” by Aliah Sheffield.
Make sure you subscribe and like the Tuned In Playlist on Spotify all 2024 to listen to real-time music recommendations.
For Justice & Joy,
